Our Palki Thakur family

We have received a lovely email from Palki Thakur, the headmistress at the Himalayan Buddhist Cultural School in Rungri, Kullu. She has told us that the children are settling in very comfortably into the new school building. It is the FIRST time they have had a bed each, AND they have windows – we visited in Winter 2010, the snow was a foot high and the dorms were only separated from the big freeze with chicken wire. This is a massive improvement and much of it thanks to you lovely sponsors and donators – THANK YOU 🙂

oooooh wowza – 5 days, 5 events!

The first 2 of 5 events have been supremely busy and all of us are learning from the experience and working towards finding solutions to all the issues raised through the drama and film. The children have worked so hard and been fantastically open with the audiences, at Kushadevi today this included not only teachers and parents but also village elders and political leaders, many of whom took part in the drama determined to find a way out of the given situation. No-one involved wants to stop next week, we cannot believe we have already arrived at week 7……………

Shram, Kushadevi, Boudh, Bal Bayabsai, Suthakhan…

We are in week 4 already! How did we get there? The Children and the team have been so busy we have had no time to update the blog, but we have lots to tell……..this last week has involved some theatre improvisations from the children that at times tell truly harrowing stories but the young participants are still managing their smiling selves that we see week in week out and continuing on with the rest of the work with commitment and enthusiasm. However we adult facilitators are finding it hard to imagine how the children are able to cope with

A BIG THANKYOU

We would like to offer up a great big thanks to the Erach and Roshan Sadri Foundation. The “Helping Young People in Nepal through Formal and Informal Education” Project would not be happening here and now without their funding and support. The difference that makes to the children involved in this project is massive. The foundation’s work to support important charitable work in Asia in the UK is invaluable. So Thank you…

First Week Complete

Few! We are very happy to say we are now working with 107 children across the Katmandu district, 3 schools and 2 children’s clubs of particularly hard working children who have been an inspiration to our team of facilitators.  I would like to express all of our appreciation to the children, who have already shown commitment to the workshops and, as far as they are able, honesty to the process. So far they have worked on finding ways of expressing themselves and their current situations. Some of the children are so tired from their work they are unable to work

RUWON SPACE and FTL in Katmandhu

Nemaste! This Monday we began the first week of a new Theatre and Film for Development Project based here in the Katmandu Valley, Nepal. It is really exciting to be working with our new partners in Katmandu who are working very hard to make a difference in their own communities to try and secure long-term peace for Nepal.  Between our 3 organisations we have a team of four experienced facilitators, carrying out workshops across five different schools and children’s clubs. For the next 8 weeks Space, Ruwon and Freedom to Learn are working together  with children aged 10-15. These young
