A New Chapter For Freedom to Learn

September 2025

We’re proud to announce that Freedom to Learn has transitioned from a traditional registered charity to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This marks a bold and necessary step in modernising our structure, ensuring we can continue delivering meaningful impact where it’s needed most: on the ground in Nepal.

As the charity sector evolves and traditional fundraising becomes increasingly challenging, we’re adapting. Becoming a CIO gives us greater flexibility to diversify our income streams, including ethical trading activities and paid-for services in the UK. These changes will help us sustain and develop our work in Nepal, even as the UK landscape shifts.

Alongside this transition, we’re also becoming volunteer-led in the UK. This means we’ll no longer be able to pay UK staff for the important work they do – but it also means that even more of your donations and the funds raised through our initiatives will go directly to our projects in Nepal. It’s a difficult but deliberate decision to ensure that every pound counts.

As a result, some of our UK-based activities, such as the Sister Schools programme, will be scaled back. We remain deeply committed to global citizenship and educational exchange, but our capacity to deliver these programmes will be reduced.

We’re incredibly grateful to our volunteers, donors, and school partners who continue to contribute to such a valuable mission. Your support is more vital than ever.

Together, we’re building a more sustainable, impact-driven future for education in Nepal.
